![]() Anyone try this or have any precision machining experience that wants to chime in on this idea? The only other ideaI have is to make a longer draw tube and fit it to the collet closer. Putting the Reamer in the tail stock and pushing it into the bore? Sounds so simple but I suspect that would be a quick way to ruin the entire spindle. What I would like is to do is get a #3 MT Reamer and cut the the taper deeper. The problem that I am having is that between the threads on the 3996 being 1/16" longer and the adapter not inserting as far enough the Draw Tube is too short to reach the back end of the Collets to draw them in. ![]() On the 3991 the adapter fits deeper into the bore than on the 3996. The spindle nose adapter that is inserted into the spindle MT#3 Taper to adapt for 3AT Collects fits the 3991 Spindle & 3996 Spindle differently. All the parts were there except the Spindle Thread Protector and the pin wrench to remove it. ![]() The older of the two came with a Atas Collet Closer. I believe that this one is from about 1975. I already have a similar Atlas Model 3991 Commercial Lathe that I picked up a couple of years ago that is in great condition. I have recently purchased a Atlas Model 3991 Commercial Lathe, Clausing tells me it was made in 1968. ![]()
